More Deployment Prep

December 16, 2009 | Lieutenant Colonel Chris LeCron

Well, I just finished completing 16 of my 24 annual drill days for the year.  My unit was low on funding so I volunteered to use my drill days tro come for the last 3 weeks.  The Defense Information School has an excellent program that certifies instructors there.  I ended up giving 4 teaching lectures and was evaluated on all four.

Although I am very comfortable teaching, I do have a problem varying my tone of voice.  One of my mentors suggested that I try to talk to an inanimate object such as a pen or fork.  I should try to convince that object of something.  He is a former Air Force Broadcast Journalist and knows a thing or 2 about the voice.  I tried this method and it actually worked!! I did much better on my last two classes with varying my voice and increasing enthusiasm.

Also am now counting down to my Februrary deployment.  At least I have time now to sepnd with my son and wife before I go.  I need to get so many things in order, including practicing my pistol shooting and medical forms.  My son Ezra is starting to babble a lot now and hoepfully he will be able to say daddy before I leave!

Wait... did you use drill days to go through the Army instructor course? If so, that's awesome... How did you pull it off?

I'm a SGT in the NJARNG, and I'm deploying in 3 weeks, but seriously, if I can get that knocked out when I get back, that'd be sweet!

Good luck on your deployment! I"m a BCT PAO who'll be going to Afghanistan a month or two after you arrive there. Hopefully I'll get to work with you.
