39th Judge Advocate General

September 04, 2013 | Captain Hannah He

Congratulations to LTG Flora D. Darpino, the 39th Judge Advocate General of the US Army!

I remember when I was a cadet, at LDAC on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and heard that the first woman had been nominated for promotion to four-star general. For all of us girls who were considering making the Army a career, it was great news. We were definitely excited that this particular glass ceiling was finally broken, and we wouldn't have to plan a career that ended before a man's would. It's one thing to be told that the Army promotes based on potential and skill, and another to actually see someone get that particular promotion.

So, it looks like I volunteered for JAG at the right time ;)
